EDITORIAL
Too many Battle Fronts

(Córdoba, February 15th of 2001) 2001 have begun with a lot of problems that affect directly to the beekeeping productive sector in Argentina.
During January we had the opportunity to travel great part of Córdoba, Santa Fe, La Pampa and Buenos Aires provinces. Everywhere the honey crop, besides coming very retarded, it was poor.
The demand begun by American organisms about presumed Dumping and subsidies to Argentine Honey producers follows its relentless course. Of not mediating an overwhelming attitude, of all, we will see weakened our participation in the international market once again.
February 28, like last date to present modifications to the Normative Project of Honey Extraction Rooms that will replace the famous resolution 220/95, although it was agreed in November, it found to most of the committed official organisms returning of its annual vacations and to most of the beekeepers very busy with they crop.
We have approached these two problems sufficiently in our previous edition and in this that we intend you to read thoroughly.
In what concerns to the Dumping, we have worked arduously searching and analysing the information and responding to the requirements that some companies and juridical studies have made us. As we suggest it in the article DUMPING TODAY, it is important that we respond with the seriousness that the problem outlines or let us look for the necessary help to make it.
Regarding the Normative Project proposed by the SENASA, this was distributed newly at the end of January and it forced us to restate the content of this 46th edition. We thank Dr. Hugo Aguirre to remit it us immediately and to the Expert Beekeeper Manuel Luis Oliver, of the Agriculture and Cattle raising Secretary of Córdoba, his disposal to analyze it with us and to make an "inclusion" proposal in the wide sense that this word makes: To include a special paragraph inside the Project that in turn “it includes” and don't exclude the small beekeepers and the expressed problem of the migratory beekeepers.
We don't ignore the general problem of the economy of the country, neither the disorder that reigns in the capable drums for honey provision.
Beekeeping Flora articles, Use of the Bees for the Biological Control and the Report of the Apitherapy Commission of Apimondia, they are true balms and they mark an expectation way.
We invite to all to share this expectation and to renovate our forces with many friends in the Next Api-Expo Río Cuarto 2001 on next May 11, 12 and 13th.

Mendoza - Argentina - Beekeeping Flora and honey quality

We present the first annex to the recent work published by the Dr. Mónica Cristina Wingenroth in "Espacio Apícola" nº 44.-
This work still reveals the ecosystems dynamism, in regions where a priori we could think that they are “poor.”
In turn, it puts in evidence the necessity to upgrade the behavior of the plants and the bees permanently in each place, if we want to respond with seriousness to the multiple demands of specific products and of high quality.

Córdoba - Argentina
Inclusion Proposal in the normative one: Honey Extraction Rooms for Micro Beekeeping Venturesome and Migratory Beekeepers

Manuel Luis Oliver, Beekeeping Technical of CÓrdoba province from 1980, is a deep expert of the activity and of the situation of the same one in the whole provincial territory.
Collaborator of our publication, from their beginnings there for 1990, it summoned us to elaborate and to propose before the Provincial authorities and the same SENASA the following proposal on the "RESOLUTION PROJECT FOR THE INSCRIPTION, REGISTRATION AND QUALIFICATION OF THE HONEY EXTRACTION ROOMS" that the SENASA has subjected to the consideration of all the interested ones.
The proposal defends the following approaches:
To guarantee the correct treatment of the capable product for export.
To simplify the task of the producer and of the eventual inspectors.
To strengthen the protagonism of the local organism of control.
To strengthen the regional economies and to incline to the origin denomination of the products.

IARC, Rothamsted - U.K.
Use of the Bees for the Biological Control of Pests

Starting from an original article published in APIACTA by the British investigator Norman Carreck of the IARC-Rothamsted, our editorial was contacted directly with him.
We have received with a lot of pleasure, of the own Norman, an offprint of another article published in the magazine "Biocontrol Science and Technology" showing and describing the mushroom spores dispensers that attacks the Pollen Beetle of the Colza.
The article contain information published by APIACTA and especially for the article sending by Norman to our editorial ofice. It refers to the success of this biological control system of Colza farming (Brassica napus L.) and other crucifers (cruciferae) like Mustard (Brassica juncea L.). It also mention to other cultivations that can be treated with virus and bacterias transported by the bees, without these suffer damage some.

Apitherapy
Apimondia
Honeys with Propolis and Aromatic Substances Demonstrated bigger Effectiveness that the Antibiotics

The Dr. Théodore Cherbuliez, president of the Apitherapy Commission of the International Beekeeping Federation (APIMONDIA), he sent us the commission report of 2000 (English and French versions) and we publish it entirety in Spanish.
The same one is very encouraging and it outlines horizons of supreme interest for those beekeepers interested in differentiating their products for pharmacological uses.
The REPORT OF THE APITHERAPY COMMISSION OF APIMONDIA includes a synthesis on the COURSE FOR HEALTH AGENTS organized in Cuba, a REHEARSAL WITH BEEKEEPING PRODUCTS (propo-honey, honey with propolis and aro-honey, honey with aromatic substances) with excellent results in front of the antibiotics in a work that included the treatment of more than 600 patients; and the works carried out in order to publish an official APITHERAPY CD-rom.

Market
USA Vs. Argentina
Dumping Today

Just as we announce it in our previous edition it comes closer a preliminary resolution, of the Department of Commerce of the United States, around the demand for presumed Dumping and subsidies to the production presented by the entities mentioned appropriately against the Argentine honey.
The article describes the performances carried out by official entities and private companies in the first place.
Then we dedicate a special paragraph about the INSUBSTANTIAL FOUNDATIONS in that the Department of Commerce of the United States would base its demand shamefully.
Seemingly the Department of Commerce bases the whole juridical unfolding, of its accusation for presumed Dumping, in a severals analysis costs published not by professionals of the Economic Sciences in a magazine, with less than two years of existence, without the professional guarantee neither of any camera or representative entity of the sector.
It is incredible, but it is probable that the Argentinean beekeepers should hire the services of very expensive international countable studies to refute the appreciations of an upstart.
If the Department of Commerce of the United States bases its legal action in those presumed ones "analysis of costs" it is not honest.
